The year was 2002. Danielle was returning, crestfallen, from Ireland after living there for only a year. Choking on the dry air as she arrived back at the Calgary International Airport, she had no idea that within four years, she would be married and leaving this city once and for all for... Mexico!
See, Danielle was born in London, to Irish parents. She wasn't made for the cowboy life. Neither was I, and I was born in Cowtown; but I could never be a cowboy, because I can't wear a hat. It's a genetic thing, they just fly right off.
So why Mexico, then? And why married? Well, we were both taking art degrees at University, and we met, and the music swelled, and, well, you know how it goes. On our honeymoon we decided to go to Puerto Vallarta. When we arrived, we breathed in the fresh breeze, looked out at the jungle in the night, and watched the moon shoot straight up from the horizon. We knew we had come to a wonderful place. So we decided then and there that we wanted to move here for a few months after graduating and just make art, be fantastic and all that. It was one of those moments.
Once we were here though, the pull of our former lives became too great. We had worked as web and graphic designers in Calgary, and found that even in Mexico a significant amount of our time was spent in front of the computer. Unfortunately, our prospects for really high-level web work in Mexico are not stellar, and so after a few wonderful months we return to Dublin, Ireland to seek our fortunes and make names for ourselves! But Puerto Vallarta will be forever in our hearts...
